Ignaz Joseph Pleyel was student and friend of Haydn, he was admired by Mozart, he promoted Frederic Chopin as a publisher and in 1797 he was the most interpreted composer of Europe. Nowadays Pleyel is still known in Paris above all due to Salle Pleyel but in his country Austria he has fallen into oblivion extensively.
The Artis Quartet Vienna has made their choice of pieces of music out of many manuscripts, at which the composition-technical quality was an important criterion. Johannes Meissl, the second violinist of the quartet, says that Pleyels music is comparable to the of Boccerini, which delights soon with the lightness of the concept, but it has to convince academical listeners first of its quality.
