Li Fiori - Kapsperger

Although Giovanni Girolamo Kapsperger was at his time praised as a great musician and composer, his music was forgotten. Only in the second half of the 20th century his instrumental compositions were discovered again and today are a big part of the lute and theorbo solo repertoire. Kapsperger vocal music is still relatively unknown and is waiting to be discovered again. Especially popular were his Villanelle collections, which were published in seven volumes, which all contain little compositions for one to four voices and Basso continuo. In the year of the publication of Libro sesto di Villanelle "Li fiori" Kapsperger reached the climax of his fame.
